Accreditation

What is CIS?

CIS (Council of International Schools) is a global accredited education organization that over 730 schools and 610 universities in 116 countries join.
Students aged 18 or above who completed a 12-year course are qualified to take university entrance exams for universities in Japan as with Japanese high school graduates in addition to exams for major universities abroad.

Why KIA chose CIS Accreditation?

KIA chose CIS Accreditation as a means of legitimation, especially as we are not required to adhere to any national standards. As a membership and accreditation organization, CIS evaluates all aspects of school life, educationally and operationally. Each aspect of school life is evaluated as part of international accreditation (school guiding statement, governance, curriculum, learning, staffing, premises, facilities, technology, relationship with parents and community) to help the community see the whole school clearly and understand the impact on students.

The four drivers of CIS comprehensive accreditation process tells how effectively a school

  1. fulfills its stated purpose and direction;
  2. ensures effective student learning;
  3. fosters student well-being; and
  4. develops global citizenship.

The organization that assesses and accredits schools

CIS accredits “schools itself”, not the “curriculum”. CIS verifies the school on a 5-year cycle and encourages them to improve as education institutions over the medium to long term. CIS verifies “whole school” in accordance with audit details including:

  • Management Solution (School governance)
  • Curriculum of education
  • Educator license ( Teaching license)
  • Accounting and financial condition, etc.

CIS may consider it’s not good for students and give the school advice to ensure the consistency with the curriculum if the school’s curriculum is far from or take different approach from education ideal. CIS is an institution that evaluates and accredits that whole school provide students appropriate education.

Benefit for students and parents

CIS evaluates accredited schools themselves strictly and accredits that they meet with international standards. CIS intermittently and continuously provides necessary guidance to schools.

  1. CIS accredited schools promise to continuously provide students high-quality international education which develops students who have the minds of global citizenship.

  2. Students educated in CIS accredited schools are qualified to take domestic and overseas university entrance exams.
  3. Students educated in CIS accredited school are be able to get appropriate support for going to university.
    There are over 625 CIS accredited schools (universities) representing 26 countries around the world including in Japan, Asia, Australia, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Europe. Information relating to guidance and counseling with universities that meet students’ needs can be provided from those universities. In addition, it ensures a network with consultants with expertise in guidance on all sorts of educational options around the world.
  4. The awards to praise the achievement are given to students for excellence from CIS accredited schools around the world.
  5. Safeguarding students’ safety
